These are the generations of Noach. Noach was a righteous man (Bereishis 6:9)
Rashi comments, "This teaches you that the "descendants' of Tzaddikim are their Maasim Tovim (good deeds)." Why are only Tzaddikim mentioned? What is left behind by other people, if not their Mitzvos and Maasim Tovim? The truth of the matter is that only the Maasim Tovim of Tzaddikim can be called "descendants'. Their Maasim Tovim result from the brain and mind coupled with the heart and feelings. They come from the depth of the person. The Maasim Tovim of a Tzaddik come about through a combination of his senses and the pleasure he feels in doing Hashem's Mitzvos. He performs them with energy and love, with spiritual attachment and bonding to the Al-Mighty, with awe and trembling from His Holiness. The Tzaddik fulfills the posuk, "All my bones shall say..." (Tehillim 35:10). These types of Maasim Tovim can be called "descendants'. Mitzvos performed withough feeling or inner trembling, with no permanence or regularity come only from the outside of a person. They are not called "descendants'.

Come, you and your entire household, into the Taiva (Bereishis 7:1)
The Hebrew word "Taiva" means "ark". It also means "word". This is alluding to us that a person needs to "enter" in to each word of Torah and Tefillah with all his strength, with all his limbs ["your entire household"], and with Mesiras Nefesh ("Handing over" one's soul for Hashem).

In the 1656th year from Creation, the Flood began. According to R' Eliezer in the Gemara, it began in Marcheshvan of 1656 and ended in Marcheshvan of 1657 according to the following schedule:
10 Cheshvan 1656 - Hashem told Noach to enter the Taiva and on that day the righteous Mesushelach died. Hashem delayed the Flood until after the Shiva period for Mesushelach.
17 Cheshvan - In the afternoon, the wells of the depth of the Earth and the windows of the Heavens opened. The Flood began and the constellations stopped moving in their normal patterns. They reversed and began moving from West to East until Noach left the Taiva.
27 Kislev - The waters stopped and the Taiva was raised above the Earth with eleven Amos of the Taiva immersed in water. The water remained upon the land for 150 days, the first of Sivan. The Al-Mighty remembered Noach and the water subsided.
17 Sivan - The Taiva rested on Mount Ararat
10 Elul - It came to pass at the end of forty days since the tops of the mountains could be seen and Noach opened up the window of the Taiva and sent out the raven.
17 Elul - Noach sent out the dove for the first time.
24 Elul - Noach sent out the dove the second time.
1 Tishrei 1657 - Noach sent out the dove for the third time. He removed the cover of the Taiva and the water was gone. The dove did not return to the Taiva.
27 Cheshvan - The land was dry. The constellations resumed their normal movement. And the Al-Mighty told Noach, "Go out from the Taiva".

He was a mighty hunter (Bereishis 10:9)
After the flood, Noach and his children were allowed to eat meat. However, they were prevented from eating any. Nimrod began hunting and eating meat by wearing the clothing of Odom HaRishon. All the animals and birds humbled themselves before Nimrod. People though that because of his power he was able to trap the animals and therefore crowned him as their king.
